HOT FOR HUE: EMERALD GREEN

EMERALD GREEN INTERIORS

These days I am crushing hard on emerald green, to the point where I am rethinking design elements in my own home so that I can incorporate this fabulous color. Green has never been my go-to color, but I do love it, and tis the season for this beautiful jewel tone! It's bold and striking, sophisticated yet edgy.

My challenge to you is to break out of your comfort zone! Even if only in a small way, why not embrace an opportunity to bring a little something different to your home? It's a fresh departure from the shades of blues and grays we all tend to gravitate towards. Here are some of my favorite spaces from designers that have used emerald green in a big way.

I still love this glamorous kitchen designed by the fabulous Kelly Wearstler in 2014 for Cameron Diaz's Manhattan apartment. It's like a jewel box!

In this living room designed by Miles Redd, the emerald walls really makes an impact. It was so smart to have the drapery panels match the wall color. Anything with contrast may have been too jarring and taken away form the sophisticated use of the color.

(Did you happen to notice the art deco chair? If you missed last week's blog post on Art Deco, check it out here!) Below, a beautiful, also deco inspired, emerald green tile creates a feature wall in this luxurious, contemporary bathroom.

If these seem waaaaaay too scary to implement in your own home, consider less dramatic applications. Apply emerald green to a key element key element. Keeping the rest of the furnishings fairly neutral allows the the green to shine without overwhelming.

I just adore the tone on tone striped fabric on these chairs, and the subtle repetition of the green in the buffet lamps. (Side note: you can never go wrong with a tulip table. I have one in my own dining room!)

Here is one of my favorite ways to use emerald green...a luscious velvet sofa. So inviting!

I am a huge advocate of painting the backs of built-in shelving, and I love that here it is taken a step further by painting the trim detail on the cabinet and drawer front to match. I would certainly not protest to working in this office space every day.

Still too much you say? Choose one accent piece to make a statement, like this beautiful throw at the foot of the bed. It adds richness to this clean, white bedroom.

A fun piece of contemporary art does the trick in this living room.
