HOT FOR HUE: RED DECOR IN THE BEDROOM

January 4, 2018

If you've been following along, you may have guessed bedrooms would be up next. The easiest way to add red in the bedroom, and the one that involves the least commitment, is to incorporate red bedding. The bed is most often the focal point of any bedroom, so a color on the bed will command a strong presence in the bedroom. The red bedding in this room is kept to a minimum, with a bright throw and red patterned shams. It picks up the red tones in the wood headboard so nicely. I also like the additional touches of red in the ceiling fixture and one of the art prints above the headboard.

If you haven't noticed by now, I like to be a bit more daring when it comes to design. That is after all how truly unique and special moments occur in the home. I encourage you to do the same! Red bedding, with a red rug, and red wallpaper? Yes, Please!

As I mentioned in my previous posts about red living rooms and dining rooms, the use of black and white is a great way to break up all the red. It can be applied to both traditional and contemporary spaces, as seen above and below. How gorgeous is this lush red velvet headboard? That is all the red you need in this room.

This beyond spectacular bedroom is design by Miles Redd, a master of using color. You'll notice that the room is mainly traditional, from the selection of wallpaper to the lines of the furniture pieces. Yet it feels so fresh with these bright red drapery panels and this oh so cool lacquered bed canopy. The addition of details like the red trim on the clean white bedding, red top of the bookcase, and even the books themselves that all have red spines, bring the look together. It is the attention to these subtleties that really make a room stand out.

On the subject of bedrooms, we cannot forget the closet. Whether standard depth or walk in, this space gets use everyday, so let's make it fun! Some of my favorite spaces to design and decorate are those hidden corners of a home that may not often be seen by guests, but can be appreciated everyday by you. It is your home after all, and every inch of it should bring you joy. In my opinion, no space should be purely utilitarian (except for maybe the boiler room - nothing will make me want to hang out in there!).

On a side note - how fabulous are the doors on this closet? So, red in the bedroom - yay or nay?
